Assistant Project Manager

Job Description:

The Assistant Project Manager works for the Production and field teams: Project Managers, Site Superintendents and Field Staff to assist in the following: acts as a liaison with General Contractor, Engineering, Design and Manufacturing regarding cost, scheduling, and close-out documents for multiple projects. This position is also responsible for design participation, pre-construction, construction and testing coordination. Assistant Project Manager will also maintain constant and effective communications with team members, internal/external customer and vendors.

The Assistant Project Manager will, also with the PMs and Field Engineers, manage projects, subcontracts, suppliers and inspectors to meet construction deadlines and client expectations.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Knowledge of base principles of scheduling, project management for construction, and electrical materials is a plus.
  • Prior experience as Assistant Project Manager level or above, managing project budgets, design/build and other construction work activities. Preferred but not required
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • An undergraduate degree in Construction Management, Engineering or related field is preferred.
  • 2 or more years experience in a construction administration, scheduling or related role preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

Thorough knowledge of construction practices, procedure, design, and materials; techniques for project management as it applies to projects including reviewing design documents, plans, specifications, estimates, schedules and reports.

Good knowledge of specifications and requirements, change order cost estimates, preparing related reports, budgeting and accounting practices.

Ability to plan, direct and coordinate; motivate employees to achieve goals and objectives; effectively resolve complaints and issues.

Ability to work independently, organize and prioritize work; communicate clearly and concisely verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective and positive working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Ability to use Microsoft Office, Projects, Word and Excel to develop professional documents; edit and proof written materials; prepare and maintain complete reports and records. Proficient in the use of office equipment including computers, internet and copiers.

Electricians and Electrical Trainees
Commercial and Residential Certified Electricians and Registered Trainees needed for projects throughout the Bay Area.  1 or more years experience required and valid CA certification or ET registration.  We're looking for motivated, ambitious and enthusiastic people who want to join a great team.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • 1 or more years experience performing electrical work on new commercial and/or multi-family residential construction projects
  • Able to install underground, slab on grade, slab above grade, rough wall and overhead, branch wire installation and make up, finish and trim devices and fixtures

Medium/High Voltage Electrical Engineer
Develop standards, design and deliver medium and high voltage (5 - 250kv) distribution systems including substations, switchgear and all associated conductors and equipment.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • 5 years minimum design of medium and high voltage distribution systems preferrably on renewable energy projects.
  • BSEE and PE registration in CA.  Ability to obtain registration in other states.
  • Experience working for a design/build oriented electrical contractor a major plus

Design/Build Electrical Estimator

Develop conceptual estimates, create and deliver proposal presentations to clients.  Able to capture client needs and respond appropriately.  Experience staying engaged in a project throughout the pre-construction process.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • 5 years minimum of design/build electrical sales in commerical, industrial, institutional and healthcare industries.  Renewable energy experience a plus.
  • Extensive electrical design knowledge, BSEE and P.E. registration a plus.

Renewable Energy Project Field Engineer

The Renewable Energy Project Field Engineer (Field Engineer) is a technical consultant and on-site project management role engaged in construction of utility scale solar photovoltaic generation facilities.  This position requires a strong technical background, relevant education and excellent customer relations, communication, scheduling and resource management abilities.

The successful candidate will possess a minimum of 5 years in a construction management role and knowledge of renewable energy projects gained either through a trade education or engineering degree.

Primary Duties

Detail Project:

Participate in Design Kickoff Meeting and help develop Kitting Structure
Review Project Scope
Review Engineered Drawing set and redline for transmittal of comments to Engineer Of Record
Design, fill out and Submit for QC:
Non-Standard Assembly Log
Non-Standard Assembly Bills Of Material
Combiner Box and String Wire Chart
AC/DC Feeder and Fiber Cut Forms
Label and Lug Chart
Phenolic Label form
Review Schedule and input Start dates into Labor Management Form
Takeoff Kit Bills Of Material

Mobilization:

Trailer, water trucks, compaction equipment
Excavation Coordination
Lead Onsite Construction Kickoff Meeting with Installation Contractor
Guide Installation Contractor Mobilization

Field Tasks:

Implement Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
Monitor safety
Kickoff each installation task to ensure procedures are followed and are streamlined
Receive and check in kits
Update Excavation Labor Management Form (LMF) daily and accurately & Ensure
Track electrical install subcontractor material issues and additional material usage. (over and above kits)
Update 6 week Short Interval Schedule weekly (SIS)
Record a log of issues encountered and lessons learned in a single notebook.
Coordinate activities with General Contractor and subcontractors on job site.
Monitor and report discrepancies with GC’s schedule throughout project
Quality control of installed product
Oversee and document testing and commissioning for self performed work
Provide support to our subcontractors regarding proper installation of CI assemblies and products
Create and track field orders (unplanned/unkitted material)
Train future foremen, lead-men, and field engineers

Change Request Process Reporting:

Identify and report new changes to the production team.
Prepare takeoffs for Change Requests
Assess Change Request Material and Labor estimates.
Coordinate approved or T&M Change Request
Oversee Implementation of Change Requests
Track Change Requests daily in the LMF and daily by T&M ticket
Discuss Change Request scope with Electrical Install contractor

Closeout Items:

Ensure redlines of As-Builts are kept up daily by installation contractor.
Return final as-builts to Production team
QC installation contractor Testing forms
Collect O&M, Factory Testing and Warranty information from product sent to site.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 years experience in utility scale solar photovoltaic generation facility construction
2 years in a supervisory capacity
Experience in, and ability to interface with customer, utility company, general contractor and installation contractor to coordinate the activities and responsibilities of each
Experienced managing the field operations of a design build project, preferably a solar photovoltaic project

Education:

Completion of a 5 year electrical apprenticeship program or equivalent OR holds a BSEE degree with a power concentration from an accredited university AND has on site management experience on a utility scale solar PV project.
